선체구조 실험동에서는 선체구조시험장치, 용접역학실험장치 등 다양한 실험 장비들이 마련되어 수업 및 연구 분야에 활발히 이용되고 있다. 구체적으로는 선체 최적 구조 설계, 선상 가열 시뮬레이션, 용접 변형의 예측 및 제어, 피로 해석 및 균열 진전 시뮬레이션, 부재 최적 배치 알고리즘(Nesting) 등의 연구를 수행한다.
연구장비
The universal testing machine (UH-I 1000kN) is the equipment that can apply the compression, tension and buckling loads to the various types of specimens. With this facility we can easily and efficiently test the material properties such as Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio of the specimens. We measure the buckling strength of a circular pipe and the crack propagation fo flat plates.
The fatigue testing machine (MTS 500kN) can be widely used for a variety of tests for ships and off-shore structures such as high and low cycle fatigue tests, crack propagation tests. crack toughness tests. yield tests, and so on. A crosshead-mounted actuator type efficiently enables high-performance tests.
Another universal testing machine(Instron 5800 Series) is the equipment which is used to test a wide range of materials in tension or compression.
Electromechanical load frames are designed to apply a load to a test specimen via the moving crosshead.
A load transducer(load cell) converts the load into and electrical signal that the control system measures and displays. Load cells are interchangeable with others of different capacities. Strain transducers (extensom-eters) can also be used on these systems to measure strains
